Canvas Art- Tutorial

The past month has been chaos in my house!

We remodeled our master bath and since that was going to be all new, I decided to paint our bedroom and get all new bedding!

We moved in to this house about 2 years ago and I have decorated every room but the master. I just didn't know what I wanted. I only had one wedding picture on the wall and that's it.

Now that is is painted I decided it was time to get something, anything, up on the walls!

I went to Michaels and came home with these

Some 16 x 20 blank canvas

sticker foam letters

white spray paint

Since this was going in the master bedroom, I wanted something 'romantic'. I decided to use a quote from our wedding song "Bless The Broken Road" by Rascall Flatts.

I just peeled and stuck the letters to the canvas ( I only used the white letters from the pack). **If I were to do this again, I would probably put Mod Podge down first to help them stick. The foam sticky stuff isn't very sticky.

After I had all the letters on I took it outside and sprayed it with the white spray paint. This step could probably be skipped, but I was thinking it would make everything the same color white.

After I had the quote on there, I also decided to add the year we got married to the bottom corner.

I LOVE how this turned out!

 

I am planning on doing something with the extra canvases to hang on each side of this. So look for that in a future post!

But for now, I am enjoying this one! I just need to go hang it on my wall now!!

Fall Wreath

I'm not going to lie, the balloon wreath from my daughters first birthday party is still hanging in my house.

I realized it is time to take it down and move on.

My baby is one, the party is over, boo hoo.

I was torn on whether to make a fall wreath or a Halloween wreath. I feel like it is a little early for either one, but decided to go with a fall wreath.

I took the girls to Joann's this morning and came home with these goodies

The leaves and berry things were all 50% off so they were only 99 cents each! Score!



I just used hot glue to attach the leaves to my straw wreath.  I attached them randomly, just trying to make sure all the holes were covered.

 Once I had all the leaves attached I stuck in the berry twigs and added a giant red raffia bow.

I ended up only using 2 of the leaf packets and 4 of the berry twigs ( I bought 6) so this wreath only cost me $10 to make!!!!

I have to say, for 10 bucks I really LOVE how it turned out!

My NEW Table!

I have this wall in my house with a sad looking little black half circle table on it. I have been wanting a new table for awhile now.

I'm not going to lie. I stalked Craigslist for weeks looking for a buffet table.

I had high hopes of finding a trashy past-its-prime piece of furniture and transforming it into something amazing...

I mean, I have seen plenty of blogs with awesome transformations, certainly I could do it too, right?!

Well, in the end I chickened out. Yep, I just didn't have faith that I could do it. I have NEVER refinished anything before, and I was just too scared to take the plunge.

But I did however find the most amazing table EVER and I am in love.

Seriously, I keep walking past it just to look at it!

Isn't it gorgeous?! I LOVE it! I love the green!

 I have never bought a colored piece of furniture before {and the hubster was a little afraid that if I bought this one I would want to re-decorate the WHOLE house} but for some reason this table was just calling my name!

And I am glad it did, because it works perfectly in my house!

Now, I just need some cute things to put on top!

{I have added a little topiary thing on there since I took this, so it doesn't look as pathetic right now!}

Oh- I got this at Homegoods in case anyone is interested in finding a gorgeous green table for their house :)

Doodles and Drawings...

Last month I made THIS sign for my house. 

One of my friends loved it and wanted to make one for her house too!

So last Friday she came over and while the kids played we made her one!

She chose to go with a white board and black lettering. She also chose a different font-and I really like the font she used! {I can get the name if anyone is interested. It is just on a different computer than what I am on right now}

I meant to take pictures of the process to show you... but well, I forgot.

The board is 6 in x3 feet {when I made mine I made it 4 feet long- so you can cut it to any length you like} The nice guys at home Depot will cut it for you if you want :)

The clips are actually magnetic clips. I found them in the office section of Walmart

The letters are cut on cardstock {could use vinyl, but cardstock is cheaper!} with my Cricut and I used SCAL to upload the font

Mod podge the letters on {anyone else want to call it Modge Podge? Or is it just me?}, then apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on top of them.

I used E6000 glue to attach the clips

Tie some tulle and/or ribbon on the clips and you have yourself a super cute new place to hang the kidlets artwork!

I seriously love her font so much, it makes me want to re-do mine and use that font! I won't {for now}, but I want to!

Need I Say More?

I saw this saying on a wood plaque in a little boutique shop.

Came home and cut it in vinyl.

Wall Letters

I thought I would share pictures of the letters I hung up in my girls’ rooms.

I know these are nothing new, just wanted to share my take on them!

For Sam’s room I found little wood appliqué things at Michaels. The ladybug was already painted, but I had to paint the dragon fly myself.  Which was fine because it allowed me to paint them to match her bedding.

I painted the edge of the letters in black, then glued on the appliqué piece.  I also used black craft paint to make little trails from the bugs. I love how they turned out!

I loved them so much I actually found full size bedding in the same pattern as her crib bedding so when she moved to her big-girl bed I could keep the letters!

(I think I need to just go back to taking pictures in auto mode for now! I am taking a  photography class in April, so hopefully my pics will improve after that!)

 

I also found these wood dragon flies at Michaels. I painted them to match her bedding, and attached them to the wall with super strong double sided tape. (And I mean strong, when we moved last year and I took these off her wall in the old house… part of the wall came off too! Oops!)

For Sadie’s room I went with a different font for the letters. I didn’t want them to be too matchy-matchy.

Her bedding is flowers and hummingbirds… and hummingbird stuff is surprisingly hard to find! So I used flower stickers that match her bedding on her letters.  I painted the outside of them turquoise since they were going on a pink wall (half her wall is pink, the other half is turquoise).

I love how they both turned out!

Artwork Hanger

I have an almost 3 year old. And anyone with kids that age (or any age really!) knows that there is always a ton of artwork being brought home from school. My daughter only goes 2 days a week, but she brings home an art project each time! My fridge just couldn’t hold anymore art projects! So one day while cruising around blog land I saw this and thought it was the perfect solution! and I had the perfect wall in my kitchen to put it on!

So I made it! I ended up using white cardstock and Mod Podge for the lettering. I didn't have enough white vinyl and I was being lazy and didn't want to go to the store. So I used what I had on hand. I actually think it worked just fine doing it that way!

(Sorry for the crummy pictures. I just got a new fancy camera for Christmas and I still have no idea how to work it! Plus, these were taken at night. A big No-No, I know. Please don't shoot, I promise to work on this! :) )



I decided to add a couple ribbon flowers to mine and I love how it turned out! I also tied tulle and ribbon on each hook :) I love tulle. And ribbon. I couldn't resist.




And look how great it looks with Sam's masterpieces hanging! Actually, last night Sam walked into the kitchen and looked at the sign and said "Oh. My. Gosh! It’s beautiful! I love it!" hahahaha- she is kinda dramatic. Nothing like her mom.... *wink*
