Garden Gnome Hat Re-Do

Thanks to my reader Melissa's adorable addition of flowers to her daughter's Gnome Hat, I decided to add flowers to mine as well!

{HERE is the tutorial on how to make this hat!}
I decided to use the three fabrics I had used for the skirt and make fabric flowers to add on to it.

{HERE is a tutorial I shared a few months ago on how to make these flowers.}

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it looks now with the addition of the flowers!!!

I went to JoAnns and picked up some red buttons and just hot glued them to the center.

So now that I have this super cute hat, I need to convince my little one to wear it! She is NOT a fan {and that is putting it nicely!} I did manage to get a picture of her in it though. Of course it is a horrible picture since she was running away from me, but you get the idea! ;)

And this one. Yes, the toys are all over the floor and she has a paci hanging out of her mouth, but hey, this is real life people. LOL. My house looks like this in the middle of the day.

I also made some gnome shoes to go with her costume and will be sharing those later this week!

Wool Felt Flower Clips

HI! I am here!

Man it has been a busy week for me this week! I haven't had time to make anything crafty for myself, but I have been busy filling orders for clips and bow holders!

I am off work today and tomorrow so I am taking the time to get caught up on orders and then hopefully by the weekend I am able to make some stuff for ME! I have a few ideas floating around in my head for some 4th of July decorations, and I am anxious to get working on them!

Want to see some of what I have been working on?

Here is a set of flower clips. I made these with wool felt and I love how they turned out. I think these are my new favorite style clip.

So that is where I have been... busy busy filling orders! But it is a good busy, so I can't complain!

Tutorial- How to Make Fabric Flowers #2

Last week I showed you how to make fabric flowers that had a rounded petal HERE.

Today I am going to show you how to make fabric flowers with a pointy {for lack of a better word} petal like the ones on my Patriotic Wreath!

Ready?

You need:
Fabric
something round to trace (I used a drinking glass)
pen/pencil to do said tracing
scissors
iron
needle and thread
button to be used as the center of the flower

First- Take your fabric and trace your circles on it- you will need 5 circles for each flower. And then cut them out

After they are cut out you are going to fold them in half and then press with the iron

And then fold them in half again, and press

I cut and pressed all my petals first, then moved on to the next steps.

{yes, I am now showing pictures of the red fabric. When you have 2 kids- you don't always get to start and finish a project in the same sitting... lol}

You are now going to take your needle and matching thread and make a gathering stitch along the ROUND edge of the petal piece

Continue across the entire round edge

Then lightly pull the thread to gather your petal. DON"T cut your thread- you are going to keep adding each petal on the same thread

Add your next petal and continue with your gathering stitch just like you did with the first piece.

When you are adding each petal, make sure the opening from the fold on each piece is on the same side. Mine were all on the left.  See in the picture below?

Once you have stitched all the way across, lightly pull the thread again to gather

Continue this with each petal.

After you have added your last petal, you need to join the first and last petals together. To do this, flip the flower over, and stitch through the back of the first petal

And then pull tight and you have a flower!

Tie it off and flip it back over to admire your work! :)

At this point you can add whatever center you want to the flower. I set a goal to make my Patriotic Wreath with only materials I had at home, so I just grabbed some plain white buttons and glued them to the center. You could certainly dress this up with some cuter centers!

There you go!  Now you know how to make 2 super cute and easy fabric flowers!

Tutrial: How To Make Fabric Flowers

I have seen these tutorials for fabric flowers all over Blogland and have marked them as a "to make" item for what seems like forever now!

This weekend I finally gave it a go!

SO EASY!

Of course I took pics along the way to share with you in case you haven't seen this before!

Materials:
Fabric
Needle and thread
Button center
Scissors

First, take fabric and cut it into squares. I made mine 3 in x 3 in

** You want to IRON your squares... I was being super duper lazy did not and regretted it once it was done! So save yourself the regret- IRON!**

{I forgot to take a picture of the first square being added on... but it is the same for all of them}

You take your square and fold it in half

And then just use a long gather stitch and stitch all along the 2 edges {I would maybe make the stitches a little closer together than I did...}

And then you pull lightly on the stitch to gather your fabric

Pull it all the way and you have a petal!

Repeat the same process for all of your petals.   I made mine with 5 petals, but I am sure you could play around with it!

And then you add your button center {I hot glued mine in there but I am sure you can sew it. I am more of a glue girl than a sewing girl though! *wink}

I added a felt circle to the back {forgot to get a picture} and then attached it to an alligator clip.

Now it can be clipped directly into your hair, or onto a headband!

You could even add a pin to the back instead and clip it to a belt, a purse... the options are endless!

LOVE it!

 I also plan on making one with each petal a different fabric, I think that would be cute as well!

Wool Felt Headbands

Happy Monday! I had a great weekend and was able to get some crafting in too!

Have you ever worked with wool felt before? I kept seeing it online but never actually purchased any. But let me tell you-

I am LOVIN the 100% Wool Felt I bought the other day! L-O-V-E.IT.

I bought a small amount just to see if I liked working with it, but I know I will be buying more, like today soon!

Isn't this headband to die for?!

Yeah, I am in love with wool felt!

I have a bunch more half made, but my cuties decided to wake up from their naps in the middle of craft time {it always happens that way, huh? lol!} so I didn't get a chance to finish them all!

The hard part for me is going to be listing them in my Etsy store and not keeping them all for my kiddos! LOL!

And Pssst....... that first headband is already listed in my store if you love it as much as I do :)  I will be listing more soon! The link to my Etsy is over there on the right hand side {or just click HERE to be taken there}... go ahead, click on it! You know you want to! :)
